A man was taken into custody on Wednesday after lighting a fire in his home on Swan Street that spread to the neighbouring duplex, according to police.

RCMP officers were called to do a wellness check at 5:15 p.m. Sept. 21, and when they arrived the man reportedly refused to exit his house.

A police truck was parked in the driveway, and the man rammed his vehicle into the inside of his garage door and the police truck outside.

Footage from a neighbouring security camera shows a car bursting through the garage door and striking the police car as tires screech and smoke erupts.

The man then allegedly lit a fire inside the house which spread to the neighbouring duplex and forced surrounding houses to evacuate. The fire department was on the scene and able to quickly deal with the fire.

The man was taken into custody and there were no injuries from the incident.
