The Kitimat Ice Demons captured three of four potential points this past weekend after beating Quesnel and falling to Williams Lake in overtime at the Tamitik Arena.

The Ice Demons played against the Quesnel Kangaroos at home on Jan. 29. Their offence was slow to start, recording six shots on net in the first period and no goals, while Quesnel did score in the opening period. However, in the second period the Ice Demons managed to find the back of the net but still trailed heading into the third. The Ice Demons came alive in the third period scoring five of their seven goals and finally beating the Kangaroos 7-4. The victory over Quesnel would snap Kitimat’s eight-game losing skid.

Hot off a victory over Quesnel the Ice Demons headed into Sunday, Jan. 30 ready to face off against the Williams Lake Stampeders. Again the Ice Demons had a slow start to the game only scoring once and leaving the first period trailing 3-1. They would bring the game a little closer scoring once in the second before ultimately tying to the game in the third period at five-all and heading into overtime. The Stampeders found the back of the net and took the game 6-5 just under a minute into the extra frame.

Donald Pacheco, Kitimat’s coach was pleased with the play of his squad.

“I was very satisfied with the results we had this weekend, we took three out of four points,” said Pacheco.

Pacheco went on to say that the team came out flat in the two games and says the Ice Demons need to have better starts to their games. He explained that team chemistry is starting to show now and the offence is also starting to come.

Feb. 5 marks the last game of the season for the Kitimat Ice Demons as they host the Hazelton Wolverines. The Ice Demons are 3-9 this season.
