A special weather statement has been issued for Terrace, Kitimat and Stewart areas with temperatures expected to reach up to 28 degrees Celsius this week.

According to Environment Canada, the time frame for hot weather is Wednesday to Saturday (Aug. 11- 14) with Thursday and Friday Aug. 12-13 forecast to be the hottest days.

“A building ridge of high pressure with rising temperatures is forecast to arrive this week. Daytime temperatures at or above 28 degrees are expected with overnight minimum temperatures above 13 degrees,” said Environment Canada in its weather statement issued Aug. 10.

Environment Canada and local medical health officers expect an increase in health and safety risks from heat and are advising the public to take precautions like drinking plenty of water and seeking a cool place as needed.

The risks are greater for young children, pregnant women, older adults, people with chronic illnesses and people working or exercising outdoors.

Citizens have been advised to monitor alerts and forecasts issued by Environment Canada.
