Kitimat saw some heavy rain this past weekend and the rain is expected to finally end sometime before the afternoon.

This particular storm came as a result of an atmospheric river with a tropic source of moisture according to Environment Canada. As of early this morning, 75 millimetres of rain had already fallen with rain beginning to taper off. The frontal system is expected to move further inland, however, Kitimat residents may still get up to another 15 millimetres.

Accompanying this rain are heavy winds that will last until midday. An intense low pressure system coming in from Haida Gwaii is expected to produce winds of up to 90 kilometres an hour. Winds are expected to ease significantly as the low-pressure system also heads inland.

People are advised to monitor buildings as damage to roof shingles and windows could occur.
