During its last two regular meetings council has approved a number of grants to community organizations.
The Snowflake Community Fairgrounds Society received $3,000 for its third annual Bull-O-Rama.
That takes place June 11 at Tamitik with the new Kitimat General Hospital Foundation being the main beneficiary of money raised by the event.
The Kitimat Racing Association and Northern Kruisers received $1,500 to stage the 2011 Dave Saunders Memorial Hill Climb.
The Mount Elizabeth parent advisory committee received $36,500 towards its MESS tennis court renovation project.
When completed, the project will have replaced four dilapidated tennis courts with one tennis court, two basketball courts and one road hockey court.
The grant passed 5-1 with councillor Randy Halyk opposed and councillor Gerd Gottschling absent.
This was a reversal of the vote during the budget deliberations in late February. At that time the grant was narrowly defeated with councillors Mario Feldhoff, Rob Goffinet and Corinne Scott in favour, mayor Joanne Monaghan and councillors Bob Corless, Gerd Gottschling and Randy Halyk opposed.
And finally the MESS drama club has received $480 towards the cost of its going to the provincial Drama Festival in New Westminster, May 5-8.
