Former Winterhawk signs contract with French hockey league

For every young Canadian who has that quintessential experience of being whisked away by their parents in the morning and off to hockey practice, the idea of playing in a major hockey league is more of a fantasy than an actual career path.

But for Kitimat local and former Winterhawk Skylar Pacheco that dream has proven true, with the 25-year-old defenseman recently signing a contract to play with Les Gothiques d’Amiens of France’s Ligue Magnus.

In his most recent season, the Brock University alumni had 15 points in 31 games.

Ligue Magnus is the current top men’s division of French ice hockey. It’s unclear whether the 2020-2021 season will be impacted by the COVID-19 virus. The league had to cancel its 2019-2020 season during the semi-finals in response to the virus with no team winning the league’s Magnus cup.
