The District of Kitimat is set to launch its second phase of an expanded curbside collection program beginning in November.

This phase will include the collection of containers, paper and cardboard recycling. Those items will then be collected every other week from the regular collection day.

The District will deliver blue recycling bins as well as yellow reusable bags to homes at the end of October. The yellow bags will include a recycling calendar along with information on how to properly sort recyclables.

“This expanded service will continue to save space and extend the lifespan of the landfill while helping to reduce associated greenhouse gas emissions,” said Alex Ramos-Espinoza in a press release.

Once the recycling is collected it will be sorted at the Kitimat Landfill and then transferred to Do Your Part in Thornhill before it’s finally recycled.

Residents can expect to receive information about the new program in their mailboxes this week. The information is also available on the district’s website.
