The Kitimat Saax generated some excitement for their inaugural season Sept. 14 by unveiling their new jerseys at the Tamitik arena.
The bright blue jerseys portray Mount Elizabeth on the torso and have the bear logo featured prominently on the chest
The design was meant to represent the people of Kitimat, and since Saax is Haisla for bear, the imagery is no surprise.
“It’s a really eye-catching colour too,” said Dev Mohokar, a hockey operations manager with the team. “We were trying really hard to bring it back to the community so they could relate.”
The unveiling comes after a big week of announcements — the acquisition of equipment manager Roger Wallace and Brent Gurski, the director of hockey operations.
Both long-time residents of the area, Gurski has resided in Kitimat for 15 years and has been involved in minor hockey for six of those years.

Wallace is a staple in the Kitimat hockey community and has been a resident for over 40 years.
“We’re really happy that we’ve got two of the best hockey locals with our team,” Mohokar said. “This really tells the town that it’s a community-driven project.”
The Kitimat Saax start their first season in the Greater Metro Junior ‘A’ Hockey League Sept. 30 against the Burns Lake Timbermen.
The team is expecting a full house of about 1,000-1,200 fans for the home opener, according to Mohokar. To support the night, the team is still looking for around 40 volunteers to help.
The team is also recruiting billet families to help with player accommodations. Billet families are paid a $500 per month honorarium.
