UPDATED: One arrested after vehicle drives into Quesnel hospital doors in attempted robbery

One man was arrested and RCMP say they are seeking additional suspects

UPDATE:

The Quesnel RCMP have released more information regarding the smashed hospital doors, which were reported Aug. 11 at around 12:05 a.m.

One man has been arrested in relation to the incident, and has been released pending a future court appearance in Quesnel.

An RCMP news release says a vehicle tow strap had been placed around the ATM in the lobby of the hospital. RCMP say evidence indicates the tow strap broke and the theft attempt was therefore unsuccessful.

Video surveillance footage obtained by RCMP showed a suspect vehicle and possible suspects. The vehicle was located on the highway towards Prince George and RCMP say it was identified as stolen.

The RCMP say they received a tip from the public which led to the arrest of one man.

Quesnel RCMP were assisted by the North District Police Service Dog Unit as well as the Forensic Identification Unit out of Williams Lake.

Police are continuing the investigation and searching for other suspects.

If you have any information, contact the Quesnel RCMP at 250-992-9211 or Crimestoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The main doors of the hospital are cordoned off by police tape, and there is shattered glass littered in by the broken doors and throughout part of the parking lot.

While the main entrance remains closed, the old main entrance and the emergency entrance remain open. Outside the hospital, one sign reads “Use old main entrance,” while a hand written sign says “Hospital closed to visitors until further notice. Emergency and lab services enter through [emergency] please.”
