Coast Mountains School District 82 (CMSD82) has released more information on how the phased approach to returning to school will play out at its schools.
First announced by provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry Dec. 29, schools across B.C. are delaying the return to class after the winter break until Jan. 10, except for children of ‘essential workers.’

Those eligible to return to schools tomorrow include “students with diverse needs, vulnerable students and students of essential service workers,” which are the children of health care workers, daycare workers and employees of the school district, according to a Dec. 31 release by school district superintendent Janet Meyer.
Parents of students that fall into one of those three categories need to contact their school principal by email ahead of tomorrow’s opening to notify them that their child will be attending school.
Education minister Jennifer Whiteside said on Dec. 29 that the extra time before students return will allow schools to assess the impact of the Omicron variant and put in proactive new safety measures.
While some students will be back at school tomorrow, they will not be resuming regular instruction until Jan. 10.
“Please be aware that while there will be learning activities, this will not be considered regular instruction; students may not be working with their regular teachers or support staff. Please email your school principal in advance of sending your child to school,” Meyer said in the release.
