City says yes to Gateway forum

Councillors Halyk and Goffinet will work with Ross Hoffman of the University of Northern BC to organize a public forum on the Northern Gateway Project.

Councillors Halyk and Goffinet will work with Ross Hoffman of the University of Northern BC to organize a public forum on the Northern Gateway Project.

Hoffman, chairman of the university’s First Nations Studies Program, proposed the forum as a way for the public to become informed about the project by hearing from different viewpoints.

The councillors will arrange a venue in Kitimat and provide speakers. Hoffman will provide a moderator for the discussion.

Hoffman proposes local speakers both supporting the project and opposing it be available as well as First Nations representatives.

The forum is tentatively scheduled for late February or early March.
