Bowering returns to the Northwest

After eight years as Chief Medical Health Officer for the Northern Health Authority, Dr. David Bowering is stepping down from that full-time position.

However, the good news for the Northwest region is he will remain with the NHA as a half-time Northwest Medical Health Officer (MHO), based in Terrace.

Effective June 1, Dr. Ronald Chapman will assume the Chief MHO position.

“I would like to thank Dr. Bowering for his exceptional leadership of population health and public health over the years,” said Cathy Ulrich, NHA CEO.

“I am pleased that he’ll continue work with us in another capacity,” she added.

This will be a return to a previous stomping ground for Bowering who has at different times been the MHO for the Northwest, Northeast and Northern Interior areas.

In addition to his half-time Northwest MHO work, Bowering will continue leading several regional health programs such as Road Health, and the NHA’s Men’s Health initiative.

Dr. Chapman joined the NHA in 2007, and has most recently been working as regional director of the Northern Cancer Control Strategy.

He will continue in that role.
