A planned power outage to take place in Kitimat on Nov. 26

An estimated 353 BC Hydro customers to be affected by outage

A planned power outage is taking place on Friday (Nov. 26) in Kitimat.

The outage will be affecting some residents along Albatross Ave., Kingfisher Ave., Nechako Centre, Nightingale St., Oriole St., and Osprey St.

Work will see power being turned off for nearly the entire day. Estimated time off according to BC Hydro is between 9:30 a.m. and 10 p.m.

“The outage-related work this week is to make repairs, get it through this winter and install new equipment in 2022,” said BC Hydro spokesperson Bob Gammer.

Equipment in the area is reaching the end of its life and is expected to get a full replacement next year.

The planned outage is for the safety of the crews as they work on the equipment as it cannot be energized while work is taking place.

Both Kitimat City High and Nechako Elementary School are listed as being affected by this planned outage. However, it is a non-instructional day therefore both the schools will not be open for classes.

In total, roughly 353 customers will be affected and BC Hydro has taken steps to reduce this number as much as possible.
