Marlins win tough swim against Prince Rupert, Bulkley Valley

Several Marlins won medals for their overall performance in their age groups.

The Marlin Swim Club pulled out all the stops to end up first on the podium at the Technicon Winter Swim meet held at the Sam Lindsay Aquatic Centre from December 8 to 10.

The club hosted the meet and competed against the Prince Rupert Aquatic Club and the Bulkley Valley Otters Swim Club.

The Marlin Swim Club won the meet in individual points scored and the teams from Prince Rupert and Smithers placed second and third.

Although the oldest Marlins struggled to find their best times in their races, every Marlin competed well, and many personal bests were achieved.

Several Marlins won medals for their overall performance in their age groups.

Kamryn O’Neil won gold, while Ainsley McKinnon and Abbee Rusconi placed fourth and fifth in the 10-and-under-women division.

In 10-and-under-men, Jacob Van Horne won silver, while Louie Quinn and Dallas Gray placed fourth and fifth.

In the 11-and-older division, Gavin Thomopoulos won silver, while Grayden Rusconi and Annika DeSousa both won bronze and Faith Silva and Kate Byrne placed fourth and fifth.

Olivia Pearson and Iris Striker won gold and silver in the 13-14 division, while Nolen Knox won silver, Ewan Thomopoulos won bronze and Isaiah Silva placed fourth on the men’s’ side.

In the 15-and-over division, Charlotte Collier won silver, Hannah Pearson won bronze, Leah DeSousa placed fourth and Sarah Toth placed fifth.

Ethan Amos placed fifth on the men’s side.

The Marlin Swim Club looks forward to all of its athletes achieving new best times in next year’s regional and provincial meets.
