Snow Valley Skating Club skaters Aliyah Goncalves and Christine Ferreira have secured their places at the 2018 B.C. Winter Games in Kamloops next February.

The two skaters qualified after competing at the B.C. Yukon Sectional Provincial Championships in the Juvenile Ladies U14 category, both skaters having good skates.

Coach Cynthia Medeiros also travelled to the competition and said both skaters did very well representing the community and the club.

“The Sectional Championships are held quite early in the season for skaters in our area, so it is a real race to refine their programs and assure they are prepared to compete,” said Medeiros.

The best result was Aliyah Goncalves’, who placed 18th out of 31 skaters and was only 1.9 points away from being in the top 10.

Medeiros and the two skaters said they were very grateful to the club and the District of Kitimat for making it possible for the three to attend the competition in Parksville.
