Three swimmers from the Kitimat Marlin Swim Club competed in the 2024 Winter Divisional Championship for the Northern and Interior Region in Penticton, Feb.23-25, a critical qualification step for athletes aspiring to compete in the Provincial Championships.

Wynn Runk, the club’s Gold Level Swimmer competing in the over 15 category, finished 10th in the 50m Backstroke. Runk is not only a competitor but also known for her leadership and mentorship within the team.

Dienye Hart showed considerable improvement across his events, securing 7th in the 50m breaststroke, 8th in the 400m freestyle, and 9th in the 50m fly. Hart managed to shave off a total of 28.82 seconds from his times across six races, indicating a significant progression in his performance.

Quinn Dennis returned from the meet with a set of strong results, including a bronze in the 400m IM. Additionally, Dennis placed 4th in the 400m freestyle, 7th in the 50m and 800m freestyle, and 10th in the 100m freestyle. Overall, Dennis cut down her race times by 64 seconds across six races, with a remarkable 25.75 seconds improvement in the 800m freestyle alone.

The Marlin Swim Club is now preparing for their upcoming competitions, with the Moose Meet in Prince George on their calendar for the end of April. A select group of swimmers is also preparing for competitions in Arizona in May.
