LNG Canada vaccinations began on March 20th as the site has implemented a vaccination schedule available to all project workers on a voluntary basis.

Vaccinations for industrial workers in Kitimat are in line with provincial health orders concentrating on locations where larger numbers of people work together or live in camps or both.

Locations here include the LNG Canada work camp and construction site, Rio Tinto, the western end of the Coastal GasLink pipeline and associated worker accommodation spots.

“Vaccination of workers in high-risk industrial settings has been one of the key parts of B.C.’s vaccination strategy and was planned to start as additional vaccines were approved and become available,” said a release from Northern Health in explaining why industrial workers have been made a priority.

“Northern Health is helping to facilitate the immunization effort, and industry will be responsible for delivering vaccine to their workforces, at their own clinic sites,” said Eryn Collins, spokesperson for Northern Health.

According to Northern Health, the distributions of the AstraZeneca vaccines to high-risk industrial settings will not affect the ongoing community and age-based vaccination programs.

In addition to Kitimat locations, AstraZeneca vaccines are being distributed at B.C. Hydro’s Site C dam project in the northeast and along the Trans Mountain Pipeline construction route in the south.
