The Kitimat General Hospital Foundation has announced the completion of the upgraded cardiac monitor system at Kitimat General Hospital. This new system allows the hospital to monitor more patients simultaneously through advanced ambulatory monitors, improving both patient care and staff efficiency.

“No longer confined to their beds, patients can now move freely throughout the hospital, liberated from the cumbersome necessity of being tethered to a bedside unit,“ reads a press release.

The new system employs portable telemetry devices that transmit vital data to a central monitor, allowing patients to move freely within the hospital while still being closely observed.

Healthcare providers will also see improvements with the integration of state-of-the-art remote monitoring technology. The system's built-in alarms are designed to alert staff to any sudden changes in a patient’s cardiac activity, enabling a swift response when necessary.

The installation of this system faced challenges, including equipment backlogs and complexities in the biomedical installation process. However, the hospital staff's dedication, along with strong community support, ensured the project's successful completion.

The fundraising effort was significantly boosted by the Lapointe Family, who led a matching campaign encouraging community contributions. The community's response played a crucial role in bringing this important upgrade to fruition.
