The District of Kitimat will provide 50 per cent of the costs to a maximum of $5,000 to new and existing businesses who have a permanent storefront to improve its appearance or to provide mobility access.

It has set aside $20,000 this year and non-profits are also eligible for the first-come-first-serve program.

This Business Facade Improvements Program is in partnership with the Northern Development Initiative Trust and more than 18 businesses have taken advantage of it over the past seven years.

The program aims to revitalize the commercial centre by encouraging private sector investment.

Technicon Industries, CDN Controls, and The Chalet Motel received money last year.
