Cheque fraud

On Oct. 12, the victim of an alleged fraud visited the Kitimat RCMP Detachment to report a friend who had contacted them to help cash a cheque after selling a car. The cheques were cashed, money provided, but then the cheques turned out to be fraudulently created. As such the bank was unable to honor them. The investigation is ongoing. (2023-3928)

Broken window

The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a broken window in a business located on the 300 block of Haisla Ave, in Kitamaat Village on Oct. 14. It’s believed the window was broken overnight. There were no items found in the vivinity that could have caused the window to break, and it did not appear the business was entered. If anyone heard anything in the area, please contact the contact the Kitimat RCMP. (2023-3930)

Intoxicated in public

During the evening of Oct. 14, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of an unknown male who entered a business, walked into restricted areas, refusing to speak to the staff. Kitimat RCMP officers attended the business on the 700 block of Lahakas Blvd N and located the male. It was found that he was intoxicated. As such, he was arrested for causing a disturbance by being drunk in public and was released from cells, without charge, once sober. (2023-3968)

Passed out in business

The Kitimat RCMP responded to a report Oct. 16 of a patron falling asleep at a business located on the 100 block of City Centre. The responding officer’s investigation revealed that the person had passed out from alcohol consumption. A family member was contacted who was able to take the person home and care for them. Tree hazard

During the morning commute on Oct. 16, the Kitimat RCMP were advised of a tree that had fallen onto a powerline on Kuldo Blvd, near Duncan St. The attending officer located the hazard and determined the roadway should be closed for a short period of time. Two officers blocked off the area, until flaggers arrived. Direction was provided by BC Hydro as to what distance should be kept from the hazard until their crews could resolve the matter. Drug impaired

On Oct. 16, the Kitimat RCMP received of a report of a driver that appeared to be passed out near a residence in the Whitesail neighborhood. The driver was woken up by the responding officers, who then started the vehicle. The driver was promptly arrested for impaired operation of a motor vehicle. The investigation revealed the driver was impaired by drugs, resulting in a 24-hour driving prohibition and the vehicle being impounded. (2023-3983)

Assault police officer

While attending a business on the 500 block of Mountain View Square on the evening of Oct. 16, police were arresting an intoxicated suspect for theft when he punched, kicked and spat on an officer. After being taken into custody, the man was lodged into the Kitimat RCMP cells. Once sober, he was released with a court date to answer to the charges of theft under $5,000 and assault a peace officer. (2023-3990)

Break, enter and theft

Kitimat RCMP officers were recalled to the scene of a mischief complaint that occured ealier in the week on the 300 block of Haisla Ave in Kitamaat Village, Oct. 18. The earlier report was regarding a broken window, which had been temporarily repaired. Sometime overnight an unknown suspect removed the items used to block the broken window, entered the building and stole some items. The investigation to identify the suspect is still ongoing.
