The Coast Mountains School District has released its school calendar for the 2024-25 academic year.
The School Act requires the board to make its proposed calendars public by Feb. 29, and submit them to the Ministry of Education by March 31.
Key dates this year include a winter break scheduled from Dec. 23 to Jan. 3, a spring break starting on March 17 with classes resuming on March 31, and a summer break commencing on Canada Day, July 1, lasting 62 days until the return to class on Sept. 1.
In addition to the scheduled breaks, students will benefit from seven additional days off due to professional development days for teachers. These are set for Sept. 27, Oct. 25, Nov. 22, Jan. 24, April 25, May 16, and June 25. Four early dismissal days are scheduled for March 12-13 and Nov. 20-21.
Statutory holidays signalling long weekends are Labour Day, Sept. 2; National Day for Truth & Reconciliation, Sept. 30; Thanksgiving Day, Oct. 14; Remembrance Day, Nov. 11; Family Day, Feb 17; Good Friday, April 18; Easter Monday, April 21; and Victoria Day, May 19.
The proposed calendars for the 2025-26, and 2026-27 school years were also presented to the Education Committee on Feb. 7 with a strong recommendation for approval.
