Police are continuing to investigate a targeted shooting in Kitimat that left one person injured and led to an arrest days later.
“At approximately 12:20 a.m. on April 29, we were advised of possible gunshots in the 80 block of Baxter Avenue,” Kitimat RCMP said in a statement. Officers attending the scene found evidence that a firearm had been discharged outside a building, though no victims were located at that time.
Several hours later, a second call reported that an individual had sustained injuries and had previously been in the Baxter Avenue area. The victim was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
A suspect was identified during the investigation and taken into custody on May 1 with assistance from the North District Emergency Response Team. The 27-year-old man was held for a bail hearing on May 2, where Crown Counsel approved a charge of aggravated assault. He remains in custody pending a future court appearance.
Police confirmed the victim and accused are known to each other and described the incident as targeted.
The investigation remains ongoing.
