Unsecured business
An alert citizen had noticed a local business located at 125 City Center was unsecured and contacted the Kitimat RCMP during the early morning hours of Nov. 2. The responding officers entered the business and found it empty, with nothing noted to be damaged. A property representative attended and was able to confirm that nothing was disturbed or missing. Intoxicated driver
While on routine patrol in downtown Kitimat during the evening of Nov. 4, a vehicle caught the attention of a patrolling Kitimat RCMP officer. A traffic stop was initiated and an impaired driving investigation was started. The driver blew a ‘WARN’ on a roadside screening device, for their second time. As a result, the driver was issued a 7-day driving prohibition and the vehicle was impounded. (2023-4229)
Erratic diver
The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a vehicle that was being operated in an erratic manner on Highway 37 on Nov. 4. With the provided description of the vehicle, the responding Kitimat RCMP officer was able to identify the vehicle and conduct a traffic stop. With the information gathered during the investigation, the driver was issued a violation ticket for driving without due care and attention. (2023-4239)
Fender bender
A two-vehicle collision on South Lahakas Blvd, near Haisla Blvd was reported to the Kitimat RCMP on Nov. 5. Thankfully the collision was minor and there were no injuries to any of the involved parties. One vehicle was towed from the scene, while the other was able to be driven. All required information was provided to both parties so they could make the appropriate insurance claims. (2023-4250)
Drinking in public
A report of a group of individuals drinking in public near the 300 block of City center was received by the Kitimat RCMP on Nov. 6. As the investigating officer arrived, the group was found leaving the area. They were stopped, checked for level of intoxication and provided a warning about drinking in public. Any remaining alcohol was disposed of and it was ensured the area was cleared of any litter. (203-4259)
Intoxicated by drugs
The report of a suspicious vehicle resulted in a 24-hour driving prohibition on Nov. 6. Once receiving the dispatch, the investigating Kitimat RCMP officer was able to locate the vehicle and while speaking to the driver started an impaired driving investigation. Roadside testing was conducted and it was found that the driver had consumed an intoxicating substance before driving, resulting in the 24-hour driving prohibition. (2023-4267)
Single vehicle collision
The Kitimat RCMP received a report of a single vehicle collision on Highway 37, north of Kitimat. The responding officers were able to locate the vehicle; however, it had already been pulled out of the ditch. The investigation revealed that the vehicle had hydroplaned on standing water on the roadway, causing it to go off the road. Luckily, there was no injuries to the occupants of the vehicle and the vehicle was not damaged and was able to be driven from the scene. (2023-4284)
Intoxicated in public
During the evening of Nov. 8, the Kitimat RCMP received a report of a possible intoxicated male near the 200 block of City Centre. The responding officer attended and was able to locate the male. He was arrested for causing a disturbance by being intoxicated in a public place and lodged into the Kitimat RCMP detachment cells. He was released several hours later without charge. (2023-4285)
