The Hirsch Creek Curling rink is open again after being shut down for two years.
The club has yet to fully get back into the swing- or throw- of things. “It’s nothing serious this year,” said avid curler Robin Cloutier. “We’re just happy to get back on the ice after two years.” Due to the shortened season, no official curling leagues are expected this year.
The rink will open with regular golf and winter club hours with a break from 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. for ice maintenance. 1 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. is blocked out for school groups, coaching, practice and doubles. From 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. is team play. Weekend hours are drop-in and group events.
There is talk of extending the season however, curling enthusiasts are urged to take advantage of the rink while it’s open. It is scheduled to close down again for the season at the end of March.
Some major repairs and upgrades are still needed to improve the rink and extend its longevity. Possible funding and grant options are being looked at.
