LNG Canada has revised its flaring schedule, announcing that previously planned activities on Dec. 17 did not occur due to scheduling constraints. Flaring is now expected to begin intermittently from Jan. 20, lasting approximately four weeks as part of the facility’s safe start-up commissioning.
During this phase, the flare height may reach up to 25 metres. Community members are advised to expect increased noise and visible emissions associated with this process.
"The size of our flare will regularly increase and decrease as we progress towards delivering Canada’s first LNG export facility," LNG Canada stated.
The company invites residents with questions to contact them via their website at lngcanada.ca/contact or by phone at 1-833-632-LNGC (5642).
Community members are also encouraged to attend the LNG Canada Safe Start-up Information Session to learn more about start-up plans for the Kitimat operations. The meeting will be held on Jan. 23 at 7 p.m. at the Kitimat Legion Hall. Topics will include an overview of the safe start-up process, updates on flaring, air quality, noise, and the Voyent Alert system, followed by a question-and-answer period.
Refreshments will be provided, but seating is limited, and pre-registration is required. To secure a spot, email info@lngcanada.ca by Jan. 20.
