Controlled blasting is scheduled to begin in late April as Cedar LNG advances preliminary construction of its pipeline project. The activity is expected to occur intermittently through to late August.

According to a notice shared with the community, the blasting will be carried out to prepare the pipeline right-of-way (ROW) for construction, in compliance with provincial and federal regulations. Work will take place between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

The blasting will occur along the ROW in areas west of Haisla Boulevard, Alcan Road, and Bish Creek Service Road. Initial work will begin near the southern end of the route, close to the Cedar LNG marine terminal, before progressing to multiple locations over the coming weeks and months.

Cedar LNG noted that no permanent residential areas are located near the construction corridor and the activities are not expected to result in detectable sound or vibration beyond the designated footprint.

On April 4, Cedar LNG announced it had awarded the pipeline construction contract for its project to Ledcor Haisla Limited Partnership (LHLP), a joint venture between Ledcor and Haisla Nation that has been active in the Kitimat region for more than a decade.

“Ledcor Haisla Limited Partnership (LHLP) has successfully executed several projects while providing employment, training and development opportunities to Haisla members and the local community,” Cedar LNG stated in its April 4 announcement.

The scope of work includes construction of the pipeline, with activity expected to begin in the second quarter of 2025. Preparations are already underway, including hiring, safety orientations and site preparation.

LHLP will manage direct hiring for the project and will give preference to Haisla and other Indigenous applicants for employment and subcontracting opportunities, subject to availability and qualifications. The partnership is coordinating with the Haisla Education & Employment team to identify suitable candidates.
