The Kitimat Child Development Centre is calling on all those with strong backs and time on their hands to volunteer for a crucial service - clearing the snow off the driveways of people who can’t do it themselves or who can’t afford to pay someone to do it.

Kitimat Better at Home co-ordinator Terry Runions said while the organization currently has volunteers who are part of the Snow Buddies program, they are overworked trying to cope with all the driveways that need clearing.

Snow Buddy Doug Hughan and his trusty snowblower currently clears about 11 driveways in and around Riverlodge.

“I have a machine I love to play with, so this is really fun for me,” said Doug, who clears other driveways even when his 11 are done. Judy Carver, who fills in when there is a need, said she loves helping people.

“I have also met some of the nicest people clearing driveways,” said Judy.

Runions describes her volunteers as “super awesome, with an exclamation mark”.
