64% of Kitimat residents are fully vaccinated and counting

The community of Kitimat is staying on top of its vaccines by having one of the highest vaccine rates in the province.

As of July 20, 86 per cent of the residents within the local health region of Kitimat have received at least one dose of the Covid-19 vaccination and 64 per cent, ages 12 and older, have received their second dose.

The area with the highest vaccine coverage is the communities along the Central Coast with a 95 per cent vaccine coverage.

As of July 20, Northern Health has administered 277,772 vaccinations with 113,250 of those people fully vaccinated.

“It’s important to keep in mind that given the current interval in BC between first and second doses, that people are receiving their notification to book their second dose at seven weeks, and therefore each week people continue to be eligible for their second dose and the rates of fully immunized residents continue to increase,” a spokesperson from Northern Health stated about in increase of fully vaccinated residents within Kitimat.

In British Columbia, 80.0 per cent (3,706,660) of eligible people 12 and older in B.C. have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine and 54.4 per cent (2,519,686) have received their second dose, says the provincial government in a Covid-19 pandemic update.

According to a vaccination data set from the University of Oxford, Canada overall leads the world in first doses, surpassing the U.K., Israel, the U.S., Italy and Germany, although some countries have a higher fully vaccinated rate.
