One motorist had his driver’s license revoked for three months and another for seven days following checks on drivers at a number of roadblocks over the Easter weekend.

Kitimat RCMP’s Cst. Rebekah Draht said five roadblocks were conducted throughout the town over the long weekend on Haisla Blvd, Lahakas Blvd, Kuldo Extension, Highway 37 and Tsimshian Blvd.

“One motorist was a fail as a result of a refusal to blow, resulting in the motorist’s license being revoked for 90 days,” said Draht. “We advise motorists to ensure they have a safe ride home if they enjoy a few drinks at family events.”

She said failure to do so can result in an Immediate Roadside Prohibition or even worse, Criminal Code charges.

Draht reminded citizens to please call 911 right away should they suspect someone is driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

Signs that someone might be impaired include the inability to drive straight (possibly going over the centre line), windshield wipers on when it’s not raining, car headlights off when its dark and very slow driving.
