The Kitimat General Hospital Foundation is celebrating the acquisition of the Fluent System for gynecology at the Kitimat General Hospital, thanks to donations of Kitimat businesses and individuals.

“Thanks to these efforts, the hospital can now schedule gynecology surgeries locally, allowing Kitimat residents to stay within their community and avoid travel on highways with unpredictable conditions,” said the foundation’s executive director Cynthia Medeiros.

The Fluent System, a state-of-the-art medical technology, enhances the efficiency and precision of gynecological procedures. It integrates advanced imaging, surgical tools, and real-time data processing to streamline operations. The Fluent Fluid Management system offers more effective and accurate surgical fluid management in gynecologic surgeries. It alerts the surgical team when there is a fluid deficit, excessive pressure, or a full waste bag. This system not only increases the availability of the operating room for gynecologists in the region but also reduces wait times and the length of waiting lists.

With over 700 people currently awaiting surgery, this new system is expected to streamline procedures for the entire medical staff, leading to improved patient outcomes, Medeiros said.

She added it marks a significant advancement in local healthcare services, made possible by donors including Rio Tinto BC Works, First West Foundation (Envision Financial), Elaine Farina, Natalie and Daniel Chimko, Bradley's Bait and Tackle, and many other community members.

The ‘Rock Out for Women’s Health’ fundraiser, with contributions from Two Peaks Brewery and a performance by ‘Hard Candy’, also played a crucial role in raising the necessary funds.
