A burst of colour, creativity and community spirit is set to fill Riverlodge on April 5 as the Spring Craft and Business Fair returns for another year of handmade goods, unique finds and delicious treats.

“This event is always a bit more relaxed than our Christmas fair,” said Marcia Rice, recreation programmer for the District of Kitimat. “Christmas is really busy, and people are in gift-buying mode, whereas spring is more about browsing, discovering something new, and enjoying the atmosphere.”

With more than 130 vendors from Kitimat, Terrace and beyond—including a business from Vancouver Island—the fair will showcase a mix of crafts and commercial goods. Artisans will offer pottery, jewellery, soaps, candles and woodworking, while business vendors will display ready-made products and services. “We even have a distillery joining us this time,” Rice added.

For those who have attended before, there will still be fresh surprises.

Food lovers won’t be disappointed, either. “We’ve got Indian food, Portuguese food, Filipino dishes, and, of course, plenty of baked goods,” Rice said. The ever-popular “pie ladies” will also be back.

While the Christmas fair often sells out weeks in advance, spring tends to be a little slower. “The gym is pretty much booked up, and the food room is filling up too,” Rice said. “But for anyone still thinking of becoming a vendor, there’s space available until a week before the event.” Interested vendors can apply online or call Riverlodge at 250-632-8970 for more information.

The fair runs from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with an entrance fee of $4 for adults and $3 for students and seniors. Visitors who bring their own reusable bag or container can save a dollar at the door. Cash is required for entry, as debit and credit are not accepted.
