There is a senior dog adoption event happening Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m at the Kitimat Pet Valu.
The kitimat humane society has seen a lot of changes since the pandemic. Pandemic puppies were adopted and returned at a rapid pace as lockdown measures were implemented then lifted. Now the animal shelter is filled to capacity and employees are working hard to do the most with limited resources.
Jolene Matthews at Pet Valu has been working closely with both the Kitimat Humane Society and the trainers Mannerly Mutts to organize the event. She says that between three and five adoptable seniors are expected.
This is the second adoption event organized by the Kitimat Humane Society and Pet Valu. There was another adoption event in December that featured nine adorable puppies- all of whom have now found their fur-ever homes.
“Adoption events like this truly make a difference.” Says dog trainer Alyssa Rogers of Mannerly Mutts. “Post pandemic we seen a huge rise in reactivity clients, and unfortunately, surrenders.”
Anyone hoping to adopt one of the dogs should keep in mind that all dogs must be licenced with the district of Kitimat yearly. It’s significantly cheaper to register your pet if the dog is fixed ($15 compared to $50).
The penalty for not registering your furry friend in a hefty fine. Licences can be purchased at the Kitimat Humane Society and the District of Kitimat office.
