Kitimat citizens recognized for the contributions to the town

The District of Kitimat has recognized a number of citizens for their contribution to the town over the last year.

The District of Kitimat has recognized a number of citizens for their contribution to the town over the last year.

Distinguished Citizens awards were presented to:

* The Kitimat Minor Softball executive:

For the restart of Kitimat Minor Softball after an absence of 8 – 10 years. The work that was put in to register over 110 players in the program and the organization of the many required volunteers e.g. coaches, umpires, field coordinators, and equipment managers.

Rachelle Vilness (president), Shelley Stansbury (1st VP), Leah McCormick (2nd VP), Erin Finn (treasurer), Courtney Fairbrother (registrar), Krysta Martindale (equipment manager) and Chelsea Bemis (equipment manager).

* Walter Thorne

To acknowledge the work that he has done in the community over the last ten plus years, including articles on Kitimat’s heritage in the Northern Sentinel, contribution to stories about Kitimat history during the 60th Anniversary celebrations, contributions to cataloguing and educating the public on local natural fauna, small animals, bats and birds. As well as many years of volunteer work on the museum board and continued education of youth in Kitimat for over 30 years.

* Andre Baldo

For his services as a volunteer coach with Kitimat Minor Hockey for six years, Kitimat Wolverine Lacrosse coach in 2017, and the time taken to work with kids on skills, mentoring and goal setting and the being a founding member, organizer and player of the Kitimat Ice Demons.

* Kitimat Lacrosse Association executive

For the restart of Kitimat Lacrosse after a 30-year absence. The work that was put in to recruit 50+ interested players and secured volunteers.

Trent Rowsell (president and head coach), Shari Thomas (vice-president), Tara Rowsell (treasurer and registrar) and Jodi Leduc (secretary).

* Kitimat General Hospital Auxiliary

For sixty years of service to Kitimat including working with hospital patients, nurses and doctors. In addition to running related hospital social functions and operation of the hospital gift store.

Jennifer Kean (officer at large), Armelle Kennedy (officer at large), Linda Ivin (treasurer), Aileen Ponter (assistant treasurer), Maria Segreto (recording secretary), Lois Godfrey (1st VP) and Theresa Mildenberger (2nd VP).

Grant served on the Advisory Planning Commission for two full terms from 2014 to 2018

* Rhonda Masch

Rhonda served on the Advisory Commission for Persons with Disabilities for two full terms from 2014 to 2018

* Cyndi McIntosh

Cyndi served on the Kitimat Museum & Archives Board of Directors from 2012 to 2017

* Doug Thomson

Doug served on the Kitimat Museum & Archives Board of Directors from 2015 to 2017

* Allan Colton

Allan served on the Ktiimat Museum & Archives Board of Directors from 2014 to 2017

* Carol Dale

Carol served on the Kitimat Museum & Archives Board of Directors from 2014 to 2017
