The Kitimat Chamber of Commerce is reaching out to the business community to expand its membership and reinforce its role in supporting local enterprise. Established in 1955, the Chamber's goals and mission statements may have evolved, but its commitment to aiding businesses in achieving economic success remains steady, says Laurel D'Andrea, executive director of the chamber.
"We help businesses by ensuring they are visible, finding the right staff, and advocating for their needs at all levels of government," said D'Andrea. "Businesses need to feel that they have someone in their corner to help them, hear them, and make change occur. As a member of the Chamber, our door is open, and we are here to help in the ways you need."
The Chamber is also highlighting the importance of local businesses that have been part of the community for over 25 years. D’Andrea said these businesses have consistently supported the Chamber's events, programs, and initiatives, showcasing their dedication and loyalty to Kitimat.
"Kitimat is fortunate to have so many businesses that have survived the 25-year mark and continue to support the community repeatedly," D'Andrea noted. "These businesses last because the owners are dedicated, loyal, and hardworking. They know the value they bring, and they continue to lead the charge when it comes to supporting all of us."
D'Andrea encourages residents to acknowledge and thank these long-standing businesses for their contributions. "The next time you pop into a business that has been around for 25-plus years, tell them thank you for being in our community and for always giving where and when you can," she said. "Kitimat is a great place to raise a family, and these businesses probably employ one of your family members. Let’s keep supporting all that they do, and they will be around for another 25 years."
The Chamber's efforts to expand its membership and celebrate the resilience of local businesses are seen as essential steps in fostering a thriving economic environment in Kitimat. By advocating for businesses and providing essential support services, the Chamber aims to ensure that local businesses continue to succeed and contribute to the community's well-being.
