The Terrace River Kings squared off the Kitimat Ice Demons twice last weekend in the playoffs for the Central Interior Hockey League.
On Friday night, the Demons had a spirited start in the first period, scoring three goals off Ian Coleman after 10 minutes, followed by a Tayden Fowler-McNab three minutes later and a goal by Derek Wakita before the end of the period.
The River Kings replied with three of their own goals in the first period, leaving the teams even going into the second period.
The second period belonged to the Demons, with another three goals scored, the first by Jeremy Chadsey after only a minute, followed by Tayden Fowler-McNab 12 minutes later and a third by Dane Schrier assisted by Ryan Green three minutes later.
The River Kings could only score two during the second period, but something must have happened in the dressing room, because they came back in the third period with a vengeance, totally dominating the period, scoring six goals and powering past the Demons to win the game 11 - 6.
There were six penalties in the game, the Demons taking the lion’s share with four, two of them by Eric Tevely for holding and roughing.
On Saturday the teams met again – this time perseverance and stamina paid off for the River Kings - they walked the game 5 - 0.
The River Kings dominated the first period, scoring two goals off Austin Turner and Ben Reinbolt. In the second period, a determined Demons fought the Kings off, resulting in no score for the second period.
However, the Demons lost steam in the third period, the River Kings scoring another three goals off Ben Reinbolt, Sam Reinbolt (assisted by Steve Cullis) and Steve Cullis (assisted by Sam Reinbolt and Nick Nordstrom).
The game saw six penalties being awarded, two in the first period, three in the second and one in the third.
