Legs were burning as a handful of cyclists climbed the final hill of the 31 kilometre loop in the 11th annual Tour de Jackpine Road Race on Sunday.

Eight cyclists pedaled the race, each choosing how many times to complete the 31 km loop in Thornhill, and four pedaled it three times to conquer 93 kilometres.

“It’s a challenging course with two big climbs but also has great roads and scenery on the way,” said TORCA’s road race coordinator, Michael Bruce.

“One to two loops is considered recreational, while three loops is for more competitive riders. It’s a nice way to include everyone from the local cycling community in one event,” he added.

The loop starts at the Thornhill Pub, travels through Jackpine Subdivision to Highway 37, heads north past the airport, and returns to the start via Krumm Road.

Recreation results: Kevin Carlson from Kitimat cycled one loop, 31km, in 1:06:03.

James Clay and John Malo from Terrace looped around twice, 62km, and finished in 2:05:33 and 2:32:21 respectively.

Competitive Results: (3 Loops, 93 km) First overall was Francois Gobeil from Kitimat, who finished in 3:05:09.

Second was Jean-Francois Richer from Kitimat, finishing in 3:09:16.

Third place went to Michael Bruce from Terrace, 3:15:15.

Fourth place was Scott Holtz from Terrace, 3:23:05 (Flat Tire Lap 1).

And next was Travis Bernhardt from Prince Rupert who did the DNF (Broken Chain).
