Stan Pucelj

October 9, 1951 - September 28, 2017

Our hearts are broken. The family of Stan Pucelj lost a wonderful and precious partner, brother, uncle, brother in law and son in law.

Stan passed away after a short illness on September 28, 2017 at Mills Memorial Hospital with his partner of forty-two years, Sylvia and sister Radojka at his side.

Stan was born in Jesenice, Slovenia on October 9, 1951 to Zdravka and Slavko (Stan Sr.) Pucelj.

As a young boy in Slovenia, Stan loved to roam the woods around his home which he shared with his extended family. He cycled and was a natural skier.

He was the apple in his grandfather's eye, the two of them inseparable, whether tending to the family orchard or repairing a bicycle.

Stan always loved dogs and on many occasions brought home a stray or a puppy that someone had given him, much to the chagrin of his grandmother.

The family immigrated to Canada in 1963. Stan attended Kildala Elementary and MESS.

He had a natural talent for landscaping and in his early twenties opened Kitimat Landscaping and North Coast Lawn and Garden. He had an unerring eye for plant composition; he loved Japanese maples and included them in his garden designs as often as he could.

On the day of his passing his home garden was glorious in its autumn colours.

Stan is predeceased by his parents Zdravka and Stan Sr.

He will be deeply missed by the love of his life Sylvia Bors, his sister Radojka (Les) Harris, aunts Danica and Marica in Slovenia, mother in law Gisela Bors, Sister in law Birgit (Paal Garteig) LeBlanc, brother in law Stewart Bors, nieces Zoya, Lidiya, Vanessa, Deryn and Karina, nephews Aaron, Marc and Justin, grandnieces and nephews and cousins in Slovenia.

His faithful companion Kao is inconsolable.

The family is immensely grateful for expert and compassionate care given to Stan by the nursing and medical staff at Kitimat General Hospital and in Terrace Memorial Hospital ICU.

A gathering in memory of Stan's life will be held at Kitimat Legion Hall on Wednesday, October 4 between 3 pm and 5 pm.

In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Stan's name to Kitimat Humane Society.
