Rudolf Scholz

May 15, 1928 to May 21, 2017

Rudy Scholz, formerly of Kitimat, passed away peacefully at home on May 21 in Helmhof, Germany. He was predeceased by his first wife, Bertha and son, Joseph. Left to mourn are: his current wife, Britta Heiny; his siblings Oscar, Angela (Fritz) and Räsel (Franz); his children Rudy Scholz, Barb (Al) Humphreys, Maria (Rick) Strobl, Franz (Angie) Scholz, and Bernie (Barbie) Scholz; as well as a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Rudy was an adventurous, energetic and dynamic man; a refugee from East Germany following WWII, he moved to northwest Germany where he met and married Bertha, and began his family. With Germany in shambles and with nothing to his name, Dad emigrated to Canada in the mid 1950’s. He ended up in Kitimat where he lived for over 50 years.

Dad had many interests and hobbies. He was an avid outdoorsman through and through; he loved hunting, fishing and hiking. Dad also enjoyed reading and learning new things; he built a smokehouse to smoke salmon, bred rabbits, made homemade wine and built a house in Thornhill. He taught himself to ski and eventually became a ski instructor. Dad was very outgoing and always getting to know new people. He would introduce himself to strangers and visitors, and often invited them over for supper. His Catholic faith was an integral part of his life and he maintained a deep devotion to the Catholic Church. He was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus in Kitimat and valued the work that they did together.

Dad was one of a kind!

Rest in peace Dad! Enjoy your new adventure!

The funeral/interment will be held in Germany at a later date.
