Moreen Graham

May 13, 1933 - August 5, 2017

It is with heavy hearts that Moreen Graham’s family announce her death on August 5, 2017

Born in Belfast on May 13, 1933, Northern Ireland, Moreen came to Canada in 1957 and settled in Kitimat that same year. While proud to become a Canadian citizen, Moreen never forgot her Irish roots which she brought to life as a story-teller extraordinaire.

She worked in a variety of positions throughout her work life including the District of Kitimat where she became the first female Justice of the Peace. She eventually retired from Alcan as a cost analyst after working there for 12 years. A valued Legion member, she played darts and served on the Ladies Auxillary for decades. Regardless of which position she held, Moreen was an accomplished woman whose attention to detail and professionalism made her highly respected by her superiors and colleagues alike.

Moreen was so close to her sister, Hazel’s family, that she saw herself as not only a mother to her own two children, Carol and Ron, but to Hazel’s five as well. In later years, she became Grandmother to Ciji and Sean (Carol) and Grandma Mo to Arne Jr., Robert and Matthew, and her niece, Natasha.

Her incredibly vibrant personality lit up any room she entered. Her kindness and generosity of spirit endeared her to many and those lucky enough to know her will remember her as energetic, engaging, and quick to laugh. She will also be remembered for her unfailing, positive outlook on life no matter the challenge - not the least of which was to be predeceased by her daughter, Carol, and granddaughter, Ciji.

She leaves behind a vast space which time will not fill in the lives of her husband, Ron Sr.; her son, Ron; her sister, Hazel; and the many extended family who loved her dearly.

May her sense of humour never leave us, her stories forever resonate in our minds and her love of a good sale bring a smile to our hearts.

She is at peace.

A heartfelt thank you to family, close friends and neighbours for all their support over these trying past few years.

A million times we’ve needed you,

A million times we’ve cried.

If love alone could’ve saved you,

You never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we love you still.

In our hearts you hold a place,

No one else will ever fill.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

But you didn’t go alone.

Part of us went with you,

The day that you went home.

In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society.
