In loving memory of Julio Couto

born January 26, 1922 and passed away May 16, 2009.

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Julio Couto, a loving husband, father, vavo,

nandy-vavo, brother, uncle and friend.

Julio leaves behind his loving wife of 57 years Alcina; his children George (Anastasia), Maria (Nuno), Mike (Tina), Zelia (Alan); thirteen grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews, and many special friends.

Julio was born in Achadinha, Acores, the eldest of five brothers and three sisters. He married his childhood sweetheart Alcina on September 27, 1952 and immigrated to Canada in 1954. In 1956 his wife and his two children joined him in Kitimat, and later two more children were born in this community.

Julio was one of the founding Portuguese families to settle in Kitimat. He worked for Alcan from 1956 to 1986.

Julio and Alicina raised four children in Kitimat; his family was his pride and joy. He would often refer to his large family as his “Production”. He loved to garden and to go for coffee and any celebration that brought his family together, particularly birthdays, including his own.

The Couto, Torres and Marleau families would like to express their heartfelt thanks for the overwhelming love and support, flowers, food and kindness that has been shown to us during this difficult time. Thank you to Dr. Mills and the staff of KGH for the caring and dedication; especially to Louise and Tracy. The compassion and care you showed us the night our father passed away will never be forgotten. To Father Kenneth and Susanna, thank you. And a special thank you to our special friends and family. Your love and support is continuous and appreciated.

“The loss is immeasurable, but also immeasurable

is the love left behind”.
