A new parade route is just one of the changes to Canada Day celebrations that will take place in Kitimat this year.

Festivals Kitimat’s Jenny Reschke said this year’s Canada Day parade will begin at the Nechako Centre, head down Haisla Hill and end at Mountainview Square.

This year’s celebrations, which also mark Canada’s 150th Birthday, will take place at the City Centre Mall and surrounding area, not Riverlodge.

“We can’t wait to celebrate Canada’s 150th Birthday at this new location with lots of new events,” said Reschke. “The District is also pleased to be working with the Kinsmen Club of Kitimat to make this year another great Canada Day celebration.”

She said the Kinsmen Club has announced that the theme for this year’s parade will be “Celebrating 150 Years of Confederation”, and that first, second and third place awards will be given to the best overall decorated floats.

Reschke said application forms are now available at the Festivals Kitimat office for vendors and parade participants. The office will be open from May 24 to June 30 at 254 City Centre Mall, Monday to Friday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., or by phone at 250-632- 4225 or email at festivalskitimat@kitimat.ca.
