It’s full steam ahead for the Kitimat Ice Demons hockey team, who have a full compliment of players and a coach for the 2017/2018 season.

Recruiting committee member Josh Slanina said the recent recruitment drive conducted by the team saw seven players express interest in joining the team.

“In August, the ice goes in, and our first training camp will be in September. Right now we’re busy putting together a training schedule as well,” said Slanina.

He said the team was looking forward to a good season with Kitimat-based coach Ryan Baker at the helm for the first time.

Baker, who played for the team and has been with them for a while, was the team’s assistant coach last season.

Slanina said while the team has a strong executive and enough players to constitute a full team, with extras, they are still looking for more players, coaching staff, trainers, equipment managers and executive volunteers.

“We are always looking for extra bodies to help out. Hockey requires a lot of people to make a team succeed,” said Slanina.

He said the executive team will also be focusing on fundraising ahead of the new season.

“We’re always looking for sponsors - we haven’t been making a whole lot of money the last few years,” he added.

Fundraising takes place throughout the season, the money going to cover travel costs for away games.
