Kitimat residents who want to stay informed about any change in air quality are invited to register for a notification service.

B.C. Ministry of Environment and Climate Change Strategy air quality meteorologist Ben Weinstein said the notification service will serve not only Kitimat residents, but also residents of Terrace, Vanderhoof, Burns Lake, Houston and Smithers.

“In order to improve communication during periods of poor air quality the Bulkley Valley/Lakes District Airshed Management Society developed a website which allows people to subscribe to air quality notifications for individual communities, via email or text message,” said Weinstein.

Notifications can be received either by email or by text message following registration on the website: www.aqadvisories.ca.

For email notification, expect a reply email to the email address you provided asking you to confirm that you really do want to subscribe. If you subscribe to receive text notifications you will receive a text message requesting confirmation of your subscription.

You cannot reply to this text - instead, visit the website address sent to your phone and click on ‘Subscribe’. Do not select both notifications. You will get a welcome message confirming your text subscription.

Weinstein said August 15 only those subscribed to www.aqadvisories.ca will receive notifications.
