The Kitimat Concert Association (KCA) and Kitimat Arts for Youth (KAFY) have joined forces to bring the Speed Control Rawk Camp to Kitimat on May 5, 6 and 7.

Rawk camp is open to students from Grades 7 to 12 who will have a weekend of intensive sessions with Speed Control starting on Friday afternoon at 3:30 p.m. ending at 7 p.m. Sunday evening will end with a public performance on stage at the Mount Elizabeth Theatre. KCA and KAFY are also providing assistance to any student who cannot manage the registration fee of $20.

Students can register either as individuals or as bands and registration forms and information pamphlets are available at the Mount Elizabeth Middle Secondary School office, from the MEMSS band teacher, at the Kitimat Museum and Archives or online at kitimatconcerts.ca. With only 30 seats available, early registration is advised.

Speed Control itself is a Yukon rock trio, who have emerged from Whitehorse’s -40 degree winters to bring their energy and dynamism to the rest of Canada. In addition to shows featuring their original music, they have a passion for music education and have played concerts in 300 schools performing to upwards of 150,000 students.

They have presented their signature Rawk Camp across Canada, working with “kids” from 8 to 85 and at all skill levels. They are experts in engaging youth and they’ve written and recorded 31 “rawk” anthems with students and teachers over the past two years. They are passionate and talented and have excited students with their dynamism wherever they have brought their Rawk Camp.
